The Brother MFC-J1010DW is a low-cost all-in-one inkjet printer for home use. It has several connectivity choices, including USB and Wi-Fi, and it is compatible with Mopria Print Service and Apple AirPrint. It uses black pigment ink and colour dye ink from four ink cartridges.
The scanner does not enable duplex scanning, but it does have an automatic document feeder for scanning lengthy, multi-page documents. There are two models of this printer available: the MFC-1170DW and the Brother MFC-J1012DW. While the latter is an improved model with a larger touch-sensitive touchscreen, NFC capability, and faster-than-advertised colour printing speed, the former is a Canadian variant with the same specs as the reviewed model.
Domestic use
For family use, the Brother MFC-J1010DW works well. Every member of the family may simply use it thanks to its various connectivity possibilities. Because its ink cartridges are inexpensive, it prints documents in both black and colour swiftly and at a relatively low cost per print. Its colour fidelity is passable for printing photos, but it has trouble with darker hues like yellow and green as well as vibrant, saturated colours. Its automated document feeder allows you to process multi-page documents fast, and its high-resolution scanner is ideal for digitizing images.
Office use
For office use, the Brother MFC-J1010DW is an adequate fit. It features many connectivity choices, such as Wi-Fi and USB, and seems well-built. It prints papers rapidly and in good quality in both black and colour. Duplex scanning is not supported by its scanner, though. It doesn’t print a lot of pages either, which is annoying in an office setting because you have to change the cartridges almost every day or every week.
For students
Students can use the Brother MFC-J1010DW with ease. With its numerous connectivity options—Wi-Fi and USB included—and compatibility with the Brother mobile app, you may print straight from your smartphone. It prints documents fast and generates documents of excellent quality. Although the ink cartridges quickly run out and need to be replaced frequently, their low cost contributes to lower maintenance costs. If you print a lot, colour printing might still get pricey.
Black and white printing
For printing in black and white, the Brother MFC-J1010DW works well. It prints at a respectable 16 pages per minute and creates excellent black and white papers; yet, because it doesn’t hold a lot of pages, you’ll need to change the cartridges frequently. Having stated that, the inexpensive black ink cartridge contributes to your minimal maintenance costs. It isn’t the best for scanning double-sided pages because it lacks duplex scanning capabilities despite having an automated feeder and a high-resolution scanner.
Photo printing
The Canon SELPHY QX10 is not suitable for printing a wide variety of photo sizes. It is only able to print 2.4″, 2.6″, and 2.7″ square images because it is restricted to proprietary 2.84″ x 3.35″ (72mm x 85mm) sheets. Positively, you can easily use your images as stickers because the sheet backing is sticky and the sheets are a nice size for journaling or hanging on your wall. Although some colors in printed photographs don’t look exactly like in the originals, they nevertheless look very accurate and have a respectable degree of detail.
