Designed only for professional photo printing, the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 is an inkjet print-only device. It employs 10 ink cartridges overall, including a Chroma Optimizer that coats and seals images to increase lifespan and gloss, in contrast to other general-purpose inkjet office printers. It is compatible with Canon’s PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY mobile app and may be connected via USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet. It also supports Mopria Print Service and Apple AirPrint.
Domestic use
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 is a great device when employed for domestic use. With its many connectivity possibilities, it’s simple for all members of the home to utilize. It prints incredibly crisp papers and vibrant, detailed photographs, but because of its slow speed, it isn’t the best option for printing in large quantities.
Its low yield of black prints means you’ll need to change the black cartridge more frequently. Its higher output of colour pages means you’ll need to buy more expensive colour ink cartridges, so if you print a lot, maintenance costs might add up quickly. It doesn’t enable automated duplex printing and isn’t equipped with a scanner.
Office use
For home office use, the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 performs poorly. Because it lacks a scanner and is unable to print in duplex automatically, you will need to manually turn the pages when printing two sides of an image. Additionally, producing a document’s initial page takes more than a minute, and producing succeeding pages doesn’t happen much faster.
For students
Students will find the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 to be a satisfactory option. Its yield of black pages isn’t very high, but the cost-per-print is still reasonable because replacing its ink isn’t too expensive. It generates good images and has superb colour accuracy for students studying photography or graphic design.
However, printing the first page takes more than a minute, and printing successive pages doesn’t happen much more quickly. Additionally, it is devoid of a scanner for scanning papers, such as class notes. It isn’t the ideal for scanning lengthy, multi-page documents because it lacks an automatic document feeder.
However, it does offer a flatbed scanner with extended hinges to accommodate bulky goods like textbooks. The printer supports Mopria Print Service and Apple AirPrint and can be connected to via USB or Wi-Fi.
Black and white printing
Since the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 is meant to produce photographs, it is not suitable for printing in black and white. It prints slowly — the first page takes well over a minute to print — and has a low yield of black pages. Nevertheless, it feels solidly constructed, and printing documents in black only costs nothing.
Photo printing
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 an outstanding photo printer. It generates excellent, high-quality images with precise color and highly clear details. Additionally, wide format paper up to 13″ x 19″ is supported. Unfortunately, even if the ink cartridges are reasonably priced and produce a reasonable amount of color prints, if you print a lot, it can become very expensive to maintain over time. Finally, it prints quite slowly; a 4″ x 6″ photo takes more than two minutes to print.
